Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust

SOUTH PEGASUS

South Pegasus hunters hut was constructed by Stewart Island Lions Club members in 1999.   Mr Ian Munro owned Stewart Island Ferry  at the time and generously transported the first ten huts built by the Trust free of charge.   The Lions Club members lived on the ferry while construction took place.  Both the Pegasus Huts have since been upgraded by the  Trust with the addition of aluminium doors, interior lining and fibreglass toilets.

The hut is situated on the south side of Islet Cove and has eight bunks.

There is room for tents.

Thanks to John Noakes, Geof Rowling & party for the stainless bench in the veranda.

Access.  Boat access is a sheltered bay and seldom gives landing any issues.  However, the access track to the hut, although less than  about 100 metres is steep and can be muddy in wet weather.
